EC has highest incidence of blood cancers

The Eastern Cape has the highest incidence of blood cancers in South Africa. Local researchers have confirmed that they are concerned about pollution and especially water pollution allegedly being the instigator of this disease.

South Africa has a dire shortage of haematologists to fight this disease. Thus the much acclaimed Dr Neil Littleton, left Cape Town a few years ago, dedicated to tackle this major health issue in the Eastern Cape.

Dr Littleton established Igazi Foundation, the only haematological service (non-governmental organisation) in the country, with the aim to improve haematological services and facilities for sufferers, their families and their supporters. It is nationally as well as internationally recognised as a champion of haematology issues, in the struggle for better health care services in South Africa.
